In the State of Michigan, there are 2 types of dental assistants: Registered Dental Assistants and non-registered dental assistants. Registered dental assistants are required to complete a 24 month program that can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $20,000. Until recently, non-registered dental assistants relied solely on “on the job” training to gain experience. Now there is a new option available for people who are interested in becoming a dental assistant that don’t have 24 months or $8,000-$20,000 to wait to start their career. Non registered dental assistants can do many of the tasks that a registered dental assistant can perform.

Many of the dentists that are looking for assistants want applicants with experience, which is difficult to get if you are already working a full-time job. PEAK Dental Assisting School gives students practical hands-on training and experience. In addition, students will have the opportunity to earn a CPR Certification and an X-Ray certification (which is required by the state of Michigan to practice dental assisting).

In our office, we pride ourselves on having a team oriented, cross-trained staff and train our assistants to have experience with insurance, answering the phones, explaining financial arrangements, and performing consultations. These are all areas that are covered in the PEAK Dental Assisting School Program.
